About Department

The department of Applied Sciences plays an important role in engineering as it provides a strong foundation to the young minds. Its main mission is to impart effective teaching and implement various aspects of applied sciences. It offers courses as prescribed by the university in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English. It also includes Electronics and Electrical, Mechanics and Computer Fundamentals.
The department has a strong pool of faculty members and lab technicians. They are highly qualified, experienced and dedicated for the betterment of students and college. They also play an important role of a mentor with complete sincerity, responsibility and care. They adopt a blend of traditional and modern interactive teaching methodologies to make learning more effective. The faculty members also ensure that they continue to upgrade themselves by participating in conferences, seminars and workshops of repute and contribute towards research and development in the form of research and review papers. The department boosts of over 100 research papers in various conferences and journals.
The department is headed by Prof. (Dr.) A. M. Khan, who is a highly qualified and experienced academician of repute capable of propelling and guiding the faculty members and fulfilling the mission of the department of disseminating knowledge at the interfaces between the areas of engineering and other core areas of applied sciences.
The department has spacious and airy amphitheaters that provide a conclusive environment for teaching for courses like Computer Programming, Mechanics, Electrical and Electronics, expert teachers from concerned engineering departments are drawn. The department, in turn, provides expertise to engineering departments to teach Mathematics, technical writing, environment studies etc.
Each student is given personal attention and care and his/her attendance, behavior and academic performance is regularly monitored. In order to ensure better learning – teaching environment self-study groups, tutorial classes and regular counseling sessions are held. Question banks, other than tutorial sheets, comprising of questions of different types and varying difficulty levels have been prepared. Home assignments are given on a regular basis to give sufficient practice to students and prepare them for internal and external examinations.

Department of Physics

Physics involves the study of physical phenomenon existing or occurring in nature by using established laws of nature or by evolving new principles or hypotheses. Physics, therefore , is considered as the basic building block of all technologies.
The department has two Engineering Physics Labs which allows a group of 30 students to carry out experiments independently. This well-equipped lab has an attached dark room to perform experiments based on light. The department recently introduced two beyond syllabus experiments. A national school on “Laser and its applications in technology’ sponsored by Indian Laser Association was organized in JIET on 8-9 October 2014.

Department of Chemistry

The department has distinguished itself as a centre for innovative and pioneering research in a wide range of areas in Chemistry and Chemistry interfacing with environmental studies. The department received fund for a research project from Department of Science and Technology. The department has two neatly designed, spacious and well- ventilated labs to accommodate 30 students. It also has a chemical store room. It provides students with a practical approach towards various techniques used in engineering application.

Department of Mathematics

The department teaches various topics in Mathematics to B.Tech and M. Tech students of different engineering branches and MBA course. In alignment with the vision and mission of the institute and the department has put consistent and dedicated efforts towards achieving excellence in research and teaching. Besides teaching and fulfilling various administrative responsibilities, the faculty members are also actively engaged in quality research in the areas of applied mathematics. The department had organized an International Conference on ‘Special functions and their applications’ from 28-30 July 2011 in collaboration with Department of mathematics and statistics, JNVU, Jodhpur.

Department had also organized one National Workshop on LaTex on 25-26 April 2018 in association with RTU Kota under TEQIP-III. One National Conference on New Advances in Theoretical Computer Science, Algorithms and Mathematical modelling had organized by Department in association with Rajasthan Ganita Parishad on 27-28 April 2018.

Department of English

The department focuses on both language and literary aspects of language. Its main aim is to develop reading, writing, speaking and listening skills and to prepare students for various campuses. The department has two well-equipped language labs to improve pronunciation and communication skills of the students and make them employable and competent. It focuses on personality development and soft skills to make them sophisticated and industry ready.

He has also published 4 books of Engineering Mathematics.
Dr Khan is research supervisor at various universities of Rajasthan and presently he has been guiding Doctoral and M. Tech. students. His areas of interest are Integral Transforms, Fractional Calculus, Cryptography and Special Functions and Mathematical Modelling. He is life member of Indian Mathematical Society, Indian Science Congress Association and International Association of Engineers Hong Kong.
He is also associated with American Mathematical Society (USA), Zentralblatt Mathematic (Germany) and Application & Applied Mathematics an International Journal (USA) as reviewer. He is good academician with an ability to relate a student.

During his Ph.D. he received the fellowship from Department of Science and Technology, Delhi and was also selected for a Special Research Training at Indian Institute of Technology (I.I.T.), Kanpur (U.P.).
